A new partner for the 3D program: the EQWAL Foundation

The MSF Foundation recently visited Amman, Jordan, where the 3D program was born in 2017. Bringing together Pierre Moreau, programme manager, Safa Herfat, technical consultant, and the entire team of the 3D department at the MSF reconstructive surgery hospital, this mission was an opportunity to take stock of the programme's progress and prospects.

Jurgen D'Hont, expert orthoprosthetist from the EQWAL Group network, was also present, as part of a new partnership between the MSF Foundation and the EQWAL Foundation. This is a key partnership for the future of the 3D programme, as their expertise will enable us to broaden our thinking about the applications of 3D technology in the field of rehabilitation.

At the heart of the discussions were an assessment of the 3D department's current activities, a review of the accessibility of care for amputee patients in the region, and the issues involved in following up amputee patients once they return to their country of origin.

Among the avenues identified for the future of the 3D programme is the printing of prostheses for the lower limbs. This is an ambitious area of development, and one in which the EQWAL Foundation's contribution will be particularly valuable. As always, the MSF Foundation relies on specialist partners to strengthen the impact of its projects on the populations furthest from healthcare.
